Finally after arriving in Toronto today, all the Miss World Canada contestants were invited to the official Sponsor party where we were able to meet many of our amazing sponsors and also get hands on their hottest products. I was very impressed with the KRA Shea Butter products. If it’s something that will be going on my face, I prefer it to be made of natural ingredients and that exactly what they have. I’m looking forward to use my Lip tint and hydrating Shea lip balm throughout the pageant week. Make sure to check out their website for more products http://thekra.co/

Next, I got my hands on my very own Warsh Cloth! Throughout the pageant week I’ll be wearing a lot of makeup and I want to make sure I am cleaning skin exceptionally well and preventing breakouts and theres nothing better than using this magic cloth. I tried it out tonight and I am in love with it, and what makes it even better is that its reusable. Get your very own here http://www.maxinewarsh.com/the-cloth/

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have an obsession with shoes. I love to have every unique pair of shoes that I can find, and I definitely saw one today these were by Skechers Canada, and just as the lights on these shoes were bright, it also brightened up my day. These kicks could add the the extra touch of style to any simple outfit and are a must have! Check out more styles at http://www.skechers.com/en-ca

I loved meeting Helene Clarkson she was ever so warm and welcoming, and each and every one of her pieces stood out, and are perfect for every occasion that you can possibly think of. You can see more of her designs at  http://heleneclarkson.com/

Make sure to keep up with my blog this week as it’s going to be fun-filled with all the Miss World Canada activities, also make sure to keep supporting me throughout and wish me luck for finals as I represent Alberta!

“Fashion is Art, and You are the Canvas”

On July 7, 2017 I took to the ever-famous Stephen Avenue in Calgary as Miss Southern Alberta World to begin my street chic blog journey. I had never done a blog of this sort before, so I have to say I was a little nervous when I began, but I knew that if I put my mind to it, I could make it into anything I desired. When it came to choosing what street I would use in this blog Stephen Avenue was the first place that came to mind without a single thought. Every person in Calgary knows the Stephen Avenue Walk, whether it be young or old. It is one of the busiest streets of downtown no matter which day you decide to go, thus it had to be the perfect for street chic.

As I walked down the street I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, only outfits that naturally caught my eye. One of the people that did was Mung, he was wearing a stunning
black suit on a day that was 30 degrees! As I approached him, he was extremely friendly, and very interested in what my blog was all about, this motivated me to keep on going. His double breasted suit was from RW & Co, and he had paired it along with shoes that he had bought in Mongolia, and they were definitely impressive, and then he was off to his meeting!

Next, Wei’s outfit was definitely an eye-catcher for me, I could see her standing out from a distance. She was wearing a blue chiffon dress from The Bay, and white shoes from The Shoe Company. Her glasses were purchased from the Sunglasses hut, her hat and purse were from Aldo.

As I was on the street I noticed that there were many diverse clothing styles, whether it be the men in business suits on a hot day coming from work, or the girls in dresses spending their day out. However none of them failed to stand out with their unique styles, which made my street chic experience on Stephen Avenue definitely a success. Most of all, their warm and welcoming attitudes made this one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and also helped me acquire these new blogging skills.

There were many more street styles that I captured, to continue to read and enjoy more pictures make sure to follow this link http://streetchic.ca/2017/07/09/fashion-on-stephen-ave-walk-in-calgary/ and let me know what you think of these Calgary street styles!

“To Live Well, Is to Eat Well”

The Coup has to be one my go to places to eat whether is be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is an ethical vegetarian restaurant located in the heart of downtown Calgary. Now, I’m not a vegetarian however, I do like to experiment with different types of foods, and definitely don’t mind vegetarian and vegan food while getting my body prepped for events like the Miss World Canada pageant.

It all started one…

WINGS NIGHT!

I never really knew about this place until last year when one of my friends wanted to go out for wings and said she was going to surprise me with a new restaurant she had discovered. She went on to tell me these were the best ‘guilt free’ wings she had ever had, and they were healthy! How could that be? Wings? Healthy? I couldn’t put the pieces together. Finally when we drove up to The Coup, I read the sign that had “ethical vegetarian written on it”. At this point I was confused, vegetarian wings? This had to be a disaster. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit nervous at this point, but my friend managed to take me inside. Once I entered the place I was impressed with the elegant layout, it was nothing too expensive however it had quite a cozy feel to it. Meanwhile, my friend wanted to keep the wings a surprise to me, so she wouldn’t let me take a look at the menu, and simply told the waitress that we wanted to order the ‘wings’. After 5-10 minutes of anxiously waiting the wings were finally here. They looked delicious and the aroma had my mouth watering. As soon as I went in to take a bite I finally realized that it was actually made of cauliflower! But the taste was too good to be true, and I remember finishing up that plate within 2 minutes. Since then I have managed to try almost everything on the menu and I can say without a doubt that each and every one of the menu items are a must try. Another one of my favourites that I always have to get is the “the roots ” dessert. This is a cocoa swirled vanilla orange ice cream sandwich which satisfies my sweet tooth every single time, but is also a much healthier alternative to a regular ice cream sandwich as well.

There’s more to The Coup than being just vegetarian, and that is being ecologically aware of their actions. Each and every one of the ingredients used in the food is local and GMO free, which means it supports our local farmers. They also try to recycle all that is possible, even including the menu. In order to off-set their waste they plant 36 trees a month and also run off of 100% wind power! Not only that, they also give back to the community through meal share, so each time you order one of the meal share foods off of the menu someone in need is also provided with a meal. Eating at The Coup, I know that I am having a positive impact on the environment and also helping our local farmers and those in the need all at the same time. I want to support such local restaurants who have more than just business and money in mind, but rather a genuine interest for those around them.

Currently, The Coup is one of the hottest places to head to for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Calgary! So make sure to check out their website to take a look at their menu and find additional information about the things they are doing to give back to our community.  http://www.thecoup.ca

“True Independence & Freedom Can Only Exist In Doing What’s Right.”

I’m hoping that everyone reading this had a very enjoyable Canada day, as it was a very special one. It marked 150 years since the birth of this beautiful nation Canada. I saw people full with joy on this day, families getting together, fireworks and many many places with fun filled events. However, I just wanted to take out a moment to one of my realizations, and a heart full of gratitude for this nation.

I know when we get busy with our day to day lives we begin to focus on problems that may seem big to us in that time and place, however in reality is nothing compared to what is happening in the world around us everyday. I truly feel blessed to have been born in Canada, a country of equality and freedom. A place where the path was carved in for me so that I could follow it and have the capabilities of following my own dreams and aspirations. A place where I could become educated, and have a voice. A place where many cultures unite. Every night, where I am able to sleep peacefully knowing that I am safe. Knowing every single day that I have all my basic needs met and can enjoy life to its fullest. And the credit for all of this goes to nobody else, but YOU. Yes, you, each and every one of you who have done your part in being welcoming to those around you, for bringing positive changes, whether it be through the selection of our parliament members or personal actions. A nation doesn’t become one on its own, its made and maintained by the people who live in it; and I am forever grateful of Canada.

I hope you enjoyed reading some of my thoughts just as much as I did while thinking them.

With love,

“You made it to the START, you will make it to the FINISH

Over the past couple of weeks, I had the amazing opportunity to be one of the volunteers at the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, specifically the Kids Race. During that time I got to stand at the finish line and give each of the little children their medals as they all came running across. This has been one of the best experiences I’ve had, seeing those big smiles of achievement that were making the kids glow. It wasn’t just the children but even their parents were overwhelmed with pride! These children and their parents made me want to laugh and smile in their joy, and it’s a day that I will never forget. The children would rush to me to ask me about if I enjoyed running and their parents would rush over to ask to take pictures. Again, continuously I was reminded of the impact that I had with my smallest actions.

Personally, I think this was a great intiative to get the children involved in a healthy lifestyle at a young age. A healthy body, always leads to a healthy mind and I truly believe exercise and a hobby that you love all direct into excellent mental health. Not only that, but the sense of accomplishment that these children were feeling as they made it to the end of the line is going to help motivate them in the future and become possible marathon runners. Now, running is not my most favourite thing to do, however when I do it I feel like I have accomplished something great, and my mind simply feels free!

While I was at the marathon, I seemed to impress Harry the Horse, our very own Calgary stampede mascot, and he definitely got me laughing in this next picture. I also ran into one of our very own Miss Teen Northern Calgary, Emily. It is great to see young women striving to help the community in every way possible and being outstanding role models for others watching. Young women like Emily continue to inspire me every single day.

“When we are young we learn to read, as we get older we read to learn.”

Recently I got to be part of the reading rally here in Calgary. It was a fun filled day while I read books to young children in grade 1. All of the children were very excited to have me at the event! They were continuously asking me if I was a real princess and if I lived in a castle. Before reading the books to them, I told them why I enjoyed reading and how powerful reading can be. Reading is one of the most powerful tools that we have, it allows us to educate ourselves and gain unlimited knowledge. With the ability to read we can also write, everything from instructions, assignments to our deepest feelings and emotions.

I believe it is essential to empower our youth to read, books can give you the key to discovering yourself, but also help you learn the perspective and stories of others. Importantly, I also believe that young girls should be empowered to keep up with their education. We are lucky to be in a time where men and women are treated much more in par than they used to be, however it still isn’t as perfect as we hope it should be. I feel humbled to know that these young girls I read to told me that they wanted to be just like me when they grew up; it reaffirmed to me that my slightest gesture had an overwhelming impact on not only them, but all those young girls and boys who look up to me.

I hope to continuously work with young children like these throughout my life even far after my reign, because I truly believe the youth should be guided onto the path that will help them grow to their full potential. These little seeds should be taken care of as they begin to grow so they may become healthy and colourful flowers.

Sitting here I’m thinking back to the weekend I was crowned Miss Southern Alberta World 2017. It was one of the most exciting thing that happened to me this year. That being my second crown after I was crowned Miss India Worldwide Canada 2016 as first runner up. I am looking forward to have you all join me on my new  journey from here on. But to begin with, let me tell you a little bit about me. I was born on a cold snowy winter day in beautiful city of Toronto and at a young age I moved to the wild west… Calgary! Growing up I always enjoyed performing in front of large audiences, I was 6 years old the first time I performed in front of my entire elementary school! I have always had a passion for theatre and acting, thus I aspire to be an actress one day.

Keeping my childhood dream alongside, I am also pursuing a degree in Psychology. Mental health has always been something I give much value to, because without our minds, we would be nothing. Something I hope to achieve is to get rid of the stigma against Mental health, thus that is what my Beauty with a Purpose project entails. I believe that everyone has the right to be loved, and one way we can achieve this is to educate people on what mental health is all about, and to beat the myths! Not only that, but I’m a strong believer of will power and determination. I know that every person is capable of achieving anything they desire in this world, as long as they set their mind to it; and I will achieve this.

During my spare time I love to read an occasional book, or go to the gym. A healthy lifestyle has always been a must for me. Eating clean and working out make you glow like theres no tomorrow! And of course I do have my occasional (or multiple) cheat meals too. I also always make sure to take out some time to volunteer in the community, whether it be at the mustard seed or the distress centre, because I think theres nothing more precious than putting a smile on someone’s face.

From here forward, I can’t wait to be a part of exciting events and do greater things for my community. I feel honoured that I will represent Calgary and all of the Southern Alberta region at Miss World Canada, and I’ll need all your support and love during it.

With love,
