On Sunday July 16th 2017, all contestants were event bloggers tasked with the duty to express their own experience of attending the 2017 MWC Sponsor Party as VIP. All of these sponsors are looking to make an impact on the delegates while inspiring them to be true to themselves while standing out in a sea of people!

At the Sponsor Party, the delegates encountered representatives of these brands and local attractions.

Maxine Warsh was present , and worked hard to educate the delegates on the water in their skin.and how to best clean cosmetics from skin which is great knowledge for young people with healthy skin to protect and get passionate about.
That first night after orientation & our sponsorship party, I immediately tried out this wonder cloth and was able to keep my skin fresh and clean, ready to start the week off right!Maxine Warsh

Pina and Lucy from The Kraco set up a lovely display of beauty products and accessories. Something that is one thing that I will never give up is candy or natural beauty products, once just happens to be sweeter than the other- clearly that would be the all natural beauty products.  I could not believe how smooth and long lasting this formula was, it has become a staple in my pageant emergency travel bag!

kraco logo body wash and beauty bar

Shoes from Nine West were provided for each delegate – later – just the measurements were taken. Blessed to say, Nine West Canada is a regular stop for my shopping adventures in Calgary, Alberta. When we found out that Nine West was our official sponsor, I was on cloud nine! Elegance and Class. Two words that describe an iconic brand that has not gone unnoticed during our Sponsorship Party to launch off the week! I cannot wait to share the shoes with you all on Thursday, July 20, 2017 during the preliminary competition!
Nine West shoes for evening gown

A girl can never have too many shoes! Heels are great, but after rehearsals for hours on end we all need to give our feet a break! Thankfully, there were lots of sketchers. One think that I love about the Miss World Canada Organization is that they are always ensuring that we are able to go 100% all of the time, they understand the importance of looking flawless in heels, but also that we are young woman who are competing and will need the comfort and practicality of Sketchers!

There were some spiffy cosmetics

Snappy Towels microfiber beach towels gave away blue and snappy_towels-web-colours-800x800pink beach balls emblazoned with their logo.  Snappy Towels invited each of the delegates to blow up a beach ball amd one of these delegates won a white Snappy Towel which is the first of many to be dispensed as prizes over the course of the week – more on that in the next blog post. We were told that Snappy Towels would be having a contest later in the week for the best underwater selfie! So here it is ladies and gentlemen, here is my personal mermaid moment!

Raven social media photo booth logoRaven social media photo booth was set up to make memories with the party and the official photo wall in the background. Robin was killing it with so many crowns and sashes high heels – she helped make the party much more memorable.

Robin had lots of ideas – was making memories with Spin Starlets who work wonders with

Isabella Hoops EntertainmentLED Hula Hoops. Isabella Hoops Entertainment sent hula hoop performers to put on a show and give tips to inspire other enthusiasts among the assembly. I am not the most coordinated person, and I am not a dancer either, but I still gave it a try- you only live once! To make rotations and gyrations with overall good vibrations , I gave it a try, but here it is!

AND…. the gift giving and getting went on for what seemed like an eternity

Hashtagio social media aggregatorHashtagio social media aggregator was there , but not really, – every Instagram picture tagged #MissWorldCanada! There were kind enough to showcase each and every girl who tagged their photos during the reign so the other delegates could see what they were doing!

xArcher Dental sent ahead dozens of tiny gift bags loaded with dental supplies – there was a massive array of dental products on hand Archer Dentaland because it was displayed in such a prime spot in the whole horseshoe array Archer Dental had to share her table with Lily Laio of Street Chic who gave away very cute tank tops emblazzoned with the Tastic Marketing in Mississaugaslogan “I Like it when you smile and I love it when Im the reason” which is a very fashion forward proposition and one that fits perfectly with Miss World Canada – too bad the shorts were mostly ‘medium’. And every delegate got tank tops from StreetChic.ca and Ryan from Tastic Marketing ran a busy booth!

Being able to interact and get to know Lily Laio was such a pleasure, her smile lit up the entire room- not to mention that her speak was a moment the inspired all of the delegates to be the best versions of ourselves! She explained that she loved my article and would be more than welcome to write for her again if I wanted to in my future. I told her that I would love the opportunity, and would get on that once the Miss World Canada Pageant was complete!

And then there was food!Thankfully to keep everyone’s blood sugar up, the Miss World Canada Organization has a cake for all of the delegates! I know for a fact that the girls enjoyed this cake a little too much!
I am so excited to see what this week hold, and I am waiting to hear what comes next!

Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors during this week, none of what we are doing as delegates would be possible without your generosity!

Blogging- it seems to be something that all millennials are doing on a regular basis, from YouTube, to Wix, or someone having an aesthetically pleasing Instagram. So as a millennial, when you are given the opportunity to write a non-restrictive piece for a new fashion blog, what would you do?

Street Chic Canada .(2017)

Street Chic Canada is a brand new online & ad free fashion publication that focuses on urban lifestyle, fashion, and beauty across Canada. Fashion is Personal. Fashion is Inspirational. Fashion is Bold. Fashion is YOU. When faced with the task of blogging for Street Chic, I tried to think of a unique blog concept that I would be personally interested in reading, that others would be interested in too, as well as something that inspired me to be bold and confident in my fashion choices.

Having one more semester in my undergraduate degree concentrated in Marketing, purchasing clothes that I can mix and match between work and play I absolutely have a budget that I keep to.  Understanding the balance of being a business student and hoping to have a career is Marketing and still enjoying exploring and embracing Calgary I focus on acquiring pieces that I can use in different ways. So when reading my blog on Street Chich, check out the prices of the clothing/outfits featured!

I was out to bunch with a one of my girlfriend on a Sunday morning eating eggs benedict with smoked salmon, crispy hash browns with fresh fruit. We planned to catch up and have a girls day while embracing the sun.  While Kayla was sitting across from me while we were chatting and people watching, I noticed that she really fits that bold but flirtatious university student who is fashionable. I told her about the opportunity I had to write for an up and coming fashion blog and asked if I could profile her.

The next thing I knew I met her a couple different days downtown when she was working or going out with other friends and captured her in action on Stephen Avenue being her fashionable self.

After a long shift of work at an insurance claim agency, we were going to go grab a quick bite before Kayla was off to her next appointment. Headed towards me was a long legged blonde all in black. Looking contemporary in an Aritzia crossed-strap halter top, high rise black skinny jean from Urban Outfitters , and a chunky heeled- strappy sandal all I could do is tell her to stop so I could capture this moment! To make things a bit more professional for the office, Kayla decided to add a cute neutral trooper jacket, and to carry her office with her- nothing is better than a black tote with brown handles.

Kayla has always been able to rock different looks, seeing her go from the office to dinner to spending an afternoon shopping. By being able to repurpose her thick heeled sandals from Payless, with a body-con dress in stone grey purchased from Aritzia , with a classic worn-in black leather jacket from no other than Forever 21 definitely was an edgy side to her personality . Something that  I loved about this look is that Kayla found a pair of killer heels for $15.00 that she can wear time and time again, that look timeless.

One thing that I love about Calgary any time of year and especially in July is Stampede wear, and guess what?! Kayla does it right! With an off the shoulder baby blue westernized dress, and an authentic pair of cowboy boots Kayla was comfy and cute all in one.
Having this opportunity to write this blog for Street Chic really opened my eyes to how creative people can be in their outfits as well as being able to write about how these people feel and project themselves. I loved being able to see how to repurpose items that I can use for a girls night out or at the office if they are done right. Having the chance to see Kayla take on summer all on Stephen Avenue for drinks, work, and Stampede was something I do not take for granted.

I cannot wait for you all to read my post on Street Chic, let me know your thoughts and opinions or what you have experienced on Stephen Avenue!  If you did not see this link on my official Miss Calgary World 2017, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, that is okay- I know we are all busy, so feel free to follow me now, & the link is right below for easy access!

Summer on Stephen Avenue Walk

If you are interested in following Street Chic on social media, here you go!
I am very excited to be meeting the Street Chic Team in less than one week at the Miss World Canada 201 7 Pageant!

Image result for VILLAGE ICECREAMThere is one thing that makes Calgarians and Canadians feel childlike- to have something that is homemade and sweet, that’s cold but warms your heart, and makes you smile from ear to ear. Some of my favourite memories are surrounded by ICECREAM! I know first hand that feeling of pure bliss and excitement when someone asks or offers- does anyone wants ice cream?

I SCREAM. YOU SCREAM. WE ALL SCREAM FOR
VILLAGE ICE CREAM
!

Billy Friley, the founder, has a story of starting a company that most entrepreneurs would be jealous of- a motor bike trip in hopes of making it to Brazil, but making it to Mexico. Friley felt disheartened when he was in Montana on his grandmother’s porch thinking about not making the trip he had planned, he found ease and joy in a pint of Huckleberry ice cream. Although Friley may not have had the trip of his dreams, the comfort he found in something as simple as ice cream, he discovered that he wanted others to find their own happiness in something so simple. His plan, to do this through unapologetic ice cream.

How does such a unique and decadent treat come to be the love of an entire community? Village Ice Cream taught Calgary that ice cream has no boundaries, that is it something that can bring people together that constantly are smiling and laughing, while possibly getting a brain freeze. There is no question of the line up at any of the three Calgary locations of ‘Villagers’ waiting to get their cravings filled from ice cream, that is made from the best naturally sourced ingredients.  The atmosphere that Village Ice Cream creates is a contributing factor to why Calgarians are loyal not only to artesian ice cream, but it could also because of the staff loving what they do and where they are, by choreographing hilarious dance routines, eating a little too much pizza, and entertaining the ‘Villagers’ with bad ice cream puns.

To fully understand the impact that Village Ice Cream has had on creating a community of literal ‘Villagers’, lets flash back to the flood in summer of 2013. Downtown Calgary was underwater, roads were closed and people were evacuated from their homes. Calgarians are some of the kindest people that I have met, and when that water was raising at Village Ice Cream, Calgarians came out and help moved their ice cream to safe freezers, they also help construct barricades to minimize the inevitable water damage.  Village Ice Cream said “Without them, we may not have been able to bounce back. Since then, the community cult of Village that has come has been nothing short of inspiring.”

Compared to many Calgarians I am newer to Village Ice Cream, but like everyone else I am head over heels for every single flavor. I attended an evening in support of Fort McMurray Fires Relief last year. I ended up going with some girlfriends, we danced, took photos, mingled, and did this all in very high heels. My mistake happened to be breaking in a new pair of stilettos- by the end of the night my energy was slightly lacking and walking was a bit difficult.  My friend suggested we go for ice cream- specifically Village Ice Cream. I looked at her and said that I have never been, she could not believe it. She said, “That’s it, we are absolutely going!” In our heels in the rain we were off for our next adventure. When we pulled up, there was a line of 30 people at 10PM. I looked at her and said, “Is it really worth it, aren’t your feet killing you?” She looked me in the eyes and said “Mattea get out of the car.” Within 10 minutes the line was no longer in front of us and we had pure bliss in paper cups in hand! The pain was instantaneously gone. A small spoon full of Village Vanilla Bean was quickly off that tiny spoon and in my mouth. I was hooked. My friend looked at me and laughed, followed by “I told you so.”

Without a doubt of my mind and most Calgarians too, one of the hottest up-and-coming local landmarks you must attend is Village Ice Cream. If they can take the pain away of my heels, they deserve not only a gold star but every Canadian should experience this unapologetic treat in a cone or a paper cup!

If you want to experience Village Ice Cream, check out their social media, trust me you will not be disappointed and you will be craving ice cream instantly:

HAPPY  150th BIRTHDAY CANADA!

I am proud to be Canadian- I believe that all individuals that live in Canada should be proud of this country. Our country is built on people coming to this land to find a new start. Canada is such a strong nation of people who believe in who they are!

I have lived in Canada my entire life, so have my parents and their parents. I was blessed from the day that I was born that I have been Canadian. Being raised in a diverse country and community, that allows people to fully embrace who they are with tolerance and understanding is all that I have known. Rather than oppressing one specific group or people, I was taught as a Canadian to be open and understanding- to learn about these peoples differences because that is what makes them special and unique.  I remember when I attending elementary school, that if one child was doing something for a cultural or religious purpose they could share what it meant to them, and we could try it too. It was not to assimilate anyone, but to learn about the world around us.

Rather than focusing on the last 150 years, I think its important to look forward. Our country is amazing and I wanted to share the world’s perspective of our country, that is what I am proud of; our tolerance, our love, our respect, and willingness to learn

Jus Reign shared an open letter to Canada about being THANKFUL FOR CANADA! Please take a moment to watch this, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Shaw posted a video celebrating Canada’s Birthday, if this does not represent Canada’s global reputation. This video actually made me cry, take a look:

Canada is a young country in this world, but it means that we are learning. I am excited that Canada has come this far already, but we do have more to learn about ourselves and the world around us. I want to thank you Canada, for allowing me to have a safe childhood, for teaching me how to appreciate diversity, tolerance, and acceptance.

I hope to continue being a role model for Canadians. I hope that I am someone that people recognize as a true Canadian over the next 50 years!

Happy 150th Canada!

Opening a post with a cliché. What is your opinion on this?

“A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words,” that is the cliché I want you to roll your eyes at.  I am sure you have heard that a thousand times-  but I do want to share my thoughts on the following: what does it take to create an image?

Ansel Adams said, “there are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.” I really hope you take this phrase literally. Without someone to look at the photo, in a sense the photo might not exist, or without someone to photograph a moment- the image would not exist.  Without these two people, the work put onto the picture may not be seen or photographed. It would be a moment in time.

I had the chance to capture a moment in time with Dominika Dabrowska Photography. I have only worked with Dominika once before when I was competing for Miss Teen Canada-World, and the results were something I would have never imagined. Thanks to Debra Kelly who introduced us, plus her unwavering ability to construct the perfect styling and makeup.  The pictures were elegant, romantic, but also could capture who I was in the moment. Every time someone sees these images, they take a moment to really look at what is in front of them.

Due to unforeseen adventures, Debra Kelly is back home down south with her family while creating ornate paper couture gowns, making brides ready to walk down the aisle, and embracing the sun 24-7. I know from first hand she is a world-class artist and I cannot wait to see what she creates next!

DOMINIKA DABROWSKA. I cannot tell you how thankful I am to have worked with you again! You understand how to make someone feel comfortable, energetic, and create a moment that everyone loves. Your adaptability to different clients I have seen first hand, you ensure that your clients are happy, and your turnover rate for these images were a miracle. We haven’t worked together in a long time, but I cannot thank you enough for your time and kindness! This time with you will be a highlight during my time as Miss Calgary World!

Like Ansel Adams said, “there are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.” If you are interested in seeing the rest of my official headshots as your Miss Calgary World 2017, please click the image above! I am curious to see which is your favourite, so please LIKE the image(s) you liked best and feel free to tell me why! I know Dominika and I would love to hear your opinions!

This is not about Canada’s 150 birthday, but rather about what our future will look like in the next 150 years! RBC has inspired young Canadians to make the next 150 years count by acting today. RBC’s #Make150Count is their commitment to building stronger ties between youth, communities, and enabling Canada’s future!

RBC’s choice to invest in Canadian youth can be seen through the efforts and mass number of submissions of entries. RBC has faith in Canadians, and the impact they can have by doing something little or big with $150.00

Growing up in Canada I take it for granted from time to tome- it is not on purpose, I have not known anything different. I was blessed to be an active child, and to have a family that has lived an active lifestyle. My Mom made the kids in our family play outside for 4 hours to earn 1 hour of screen time- this includes television or computer- during our summers. I started playing sports when I was three years old, my brother and sister both played sports too, as well as my parents. I was blessed that my family could afford to put all three children into multiple sports.

The experiences I have being active in school or playing sports have influenced the person I am today. Because of these opportunities, I have learned to communicate, the importance of being able to lean on people, the benefits of leadership, and what it means to be on a team. One of the most important things that I was lucky enough to discover by being active and being on teams is the ability I have to push myself harder and harder, to learn my limits mentally and physically.

My #MAKE150COUNT Proposal was,

In Canada children and youth do not have enough physical activity in their daily lives, and/or families do not have the means to have their children participate in sport.
I would #Make150Count by purchasing different team sporting balls (so that everyone can play- not just one child) and donate them to elementary schools in my area to increase their appreciation for sport and benefit from being active.

I challenge you to #MAKE150COUNT. Tweet me and RBC, tell you how you are going to #MAKE150COUNT with no strings attached!

Image result for lilac festival
Tell me. What marks the start of enjoying the sun, walking in rivers, or going to get icecream? In Calgary the mark of camping, hiking, walking in Princess Island Park, and knowing its almost time for Stampede is the 4th Street Lilac Festival.

Calgary is lucky to have lilacs grow throughout the city. I once met a woman from California who loved the look of lilacs to photograph, she told me that lilacs only grow when there are cold temperatures during part of the year. In Calgary, lilacs range from a deep rich purple to white as snow. In almost every part of Calgary, in the communities, driving down the highways, downtown, or in a park, there is a very good chance you will see lilacs blooming in June.

The 4th Street Lilac Festival is when Calgarians come out to shed layers of clothing from our winters, to embrace Calgarian culture and support our community. The Lilac Festival is an entire day of being able to enjoy the sun with loved ones while walking around looking at different Image result for lemon heaven lemonadeCalgary business owner’s companies and products! You can find anything from gourmet dog treats, to fitness classes, to buskers, and mini donuts that fill your heart and stomach with sugary-goodness.  I will be honest, my love of Tim Hortons is just as strong as my impulse of wanting to jump into a bag of dough coated in sugar and cinnamon.

This year was especially one of a kind since its Canada’s 150! Seeing the Calgary community come together really did exemplify what it means to be Canadian. People from all over the city and surrounding areas, of different ages, different incomes, at different stages in their lives- but everyone was wearing their sunglasses, with friends and family, with either a fresh lemonade in hand, or looking at different vendors. I was so blessed to attend this year’s Annual 4th Street Lilac Festival as Miss Calgary World 2017, while embracing my Canadian heritage! I am always happy to spend a day representing my city while being surrounded by Calgarians!

Spring is officially here and the flowers are blooming! Spring cleanup and embracing  green thumbs for Albertans start in May, before we get that last little bit of snow, hail, and cold.

The Alberta Delegates were invited to get down and dirty with a beautification project at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. On May 13,  I spent my day with Miss Teenage Alberta-Grace and Miss Teenage Cardston County-Sarah, along with Angeline Mcdonald and her life saving service dog Cisko. We were cleaning picnicking areas, pulling weeds, aerating the flower beds and preparing the grounds for the planting of flowers and beautifying the grounds for patients, doctors, and visitors.

Once Grace, Sarah, and I got down and dirty, we had the opportunity to watch Angeline and Cisko be interviewed and speak about the work that they do. Cisko (AKA K-9 Cisko) and Angeline explained that they were a certified team- both are not only have kind hearts and souls, but Cisko is a certified therapy dog. From my perspective, I had the opportunity to watch Cisko and Angeline interact with people in the courtyard, almost every person that walked by either asked if they could pet Cisko or knew him by name! Angeline told me,

“We Are Totally Devoted To Bringing Happiness And Joy To Zithers At The Chinook Regional Hospital”

The Chinook Regional Hospital asked the three beauty queens to interview for a possible promotional piece about volunteering in the community or specifically with the hospital. We were to introduce ourselves/our titles, what we plan to do with our titles, why we were volunteering, and the importance of volunteering. Sarah and Grace absolutely nailed their portions! They spoke effortless and confidently.  I explained that the reason that I was volunteering today was because I understood the importance of the little things making a big difference- and how something as simple as planting flowers can change the mindset and emotions of people. The three of us explained that volunteering is so much more than just doing a task, but rather it is about a kind deed can influence those around you to do the same- that no task is too little or is not appreciated.

We all had a great day with each other and the other volunteers who took the time out of their days to make the world a better place. The term Beauty with a Purpose came to mind- literal and figuratively. The literal would be that fact that we are beautifying the Hospital grounds with flowers to benefit those who were spending their days saving lives, fighting for their lives, and visiting their loved ones. The figurative could be interpreted as those with beautiful hearts understand that their purpose is to better the world around them. Either way, MISS WORLD and Miss World Canada’s Beauty with a Purpose is evident not only in a ‘beauty queen’ but also in the hearts of those who made the conscious effort to better the world around them because of the person they are. I cannot wait to see the final results once all of the flowers are planted.

My definition of a spray tan was created by TAN LUIS MOBILE SPRAY TAN.

Having a natural but bronzed look head to toe was something that I loved during the summer, but I found that competing in the winter didn’t allow for much sunning. Tan Luis is my miracle worker and the only tan that I will have when I am on stage.

My very first experience, I had 18 days notice before I was flew to Nicaragua to compete at Miss Teen Universe as the Canadian delegate. It was the dead of a deep-frozen January. Heading down to Miss Teen Universe I was informed that these Latin delegates would have that natural bronzed looked 365 days a year, and I would most likely be the ‘whitest’ delegate and I did not mind that at all being from Canada. The night before I flew Tan Luis came to my home and made this Canadian snow-coloured girl into a contender at Miss Teen Universe.  I could not believe the effortless natural glow that my skin took on, it was if I had been kissed by the sun.

My next opportunity to compete internationally, I knew who I would call- Tan Luis. Having the opportunity last minute to work with this wonderful lady was a
blessing.  She has become what I like to think as my why my skin glows, my smile appears whiter, and why the colours of my evening  “Golden Glow Goddess”. She is the reason gowns and bikinis all seem that much more glamours and extravagant on stage.  Once again, I was on stage this March, and this summer during the national competition for Miss World Canada 2017. There is no one I trust more than this Golden Glow Goddess to make me literally glow on stage like Tan Luis.  Thank you so much for always believing in me and I cannot wait to see where your lovely tans take me!

The term Beauty with a Purpose needs to be defined.
Beauty with a Purpose is the foundation and the core of the MISS WORLD Organization, created by Julia Morley in 1972 and has led to “hundreds of millions of pounds have been raised and donated to local and international organizations in aid of disadvantaged children.”
Image result for beauty with a purpose logoEach delegate is passionate about a different set of causes or has an experience that makes her driven to raise awareness about that specific experience.  Depending on how much the delegate is willing to share about her passion to the cause, her efforts could include public speaking, fundraising, protesting, educating through seminars or workshops, and aligning herself with organizations that have the same values as she does. The delegates of MISS WORLD currently operate in over 100 countries, and have given tens of thousands of young women the chance to make a lasting contribution of those around them and those whom may be at a disadvantage. I am proud to be a delegate of Miss World Canada, vying to represent Canada at MISS WORLD 2017 and my Beauty with a Purpose I am passionate about from experience. I am an advocate for concussion prevention, and head injury awareness.

In the media, there is a burst of information around professional athletes and the long-term implications that a hit to the head can have on that person, their family, and the team. I know firsthand the impact that concussions and head injuries can have on a person. I have played sports my entire life and have had multiple concussions, and know people who have had their lives instantly changed due to a concussion or a head injury. It has taken me a long time to come to terms with who I am, what I have overcome, and I am finally strong enough and confident in myself to share it publicly.

I experienced a traumatic birth that fractured my skull and lead to permanent brain damage. My parents explained to me that I was on medication to prevent seizures because of the swelling and the hematoma where my fracture occurred. Although, I do not remember any of this as a baby, I do remember seeing photos of me in the hospital when I was born being hooked up to multiple leads that would monitor everything and anything.

When I was in elementary school in Ontario I remember questioning why I didn’t pick things up as quickly as my younger brother or sister. A tutor explained that in a brick wall I was missing one or two foundation bricks that I needed.  My tutor would try to bribe me with those lovely mint Aero bars if I would do the question properly. I would tell my tutor I would try, most of the time I would be correct, but those few times I could not get it my tutor would push and push and push, but I physically just could not do it. It was hard for me. I felt stupid. I was never a horrible student, I have always done well, but just not as well as my siblings- and that was the hardest part for me.

I succeed through elementary, junior high, and high school as an honours student, but it took a lot of work and commitment to combating what my parents, tutors, and I thought was dyslexia. In my second year of my undergraduate degree my parents and I decided we should make a conscious effort to attempting to see if there was a correlation between my skull fracture at birth and the struggles through my education. I went through multiple six hour sessions of cognitive and non-cognitive behavioural testing at the University of Calgary, and we did find there was a connection between my skull fracture and what we believed was dyslexia. I am not dyslexic. I have suffered from permanent brain damage since birth. When we received the results from my testing, I tested in the 80 percentile and higher- but in the areas where I experienced my skull fracture I tested in the seventh and thirteenth percentiles.

I heard Melinda Bam, Miss Universe South Africa 2012 say “We are not a product of our circumstance, but rather a product of our choosing”. Once I heard her say this I feel that my outlook on life completely changed. I do not know what life would be like any other way. I question how I would be different if I did not experience a fractured skull at birth, being on medication as a baby, having concussions, or thinking I was dyslexic for 19 years of my life. But I am thankful at the same time for these variables. I believe that a person needs to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses to develop skills that are adaptable these weaknesses and play on their strengths. I have developed a work ethic that I pride myself on because of my circumstance, but for those who have had their lives alter in an instant once they have discovered who they are I cannot imagine the adversity they will have to overcome. I believe that just as Melinda Bam said, we can choose. We can choose to be something other than what our circumstance deems us to be.

My Beauty with a Purpose is to raise awareness on the impacts that head injuries can have long-term on individuals- specifically children. I am working with organizations to encourage people to recognizing the importance of head injuries when they happen. I am confident that I will be able to allow parents to acknowledge that head injuries need to be taken seriously in children so that they do not become a product of a circumstance, but if they do, they can choose to take the proper steps to adapt to their circumstance.

I cannot wait to see where this year takes me and the people that I will meet on this journey.
