Bonjour! Welcome to my first blog post as Miss Calgary World 2020. My name is Fiona and it’s been such a great honor to be a part of the Miss World Canada pageant. I am excited to give you a sneak peek into what I have learned from pageants in this blog. Please feel free to reach out if you share similar viewpoints as me. 😘
Growing up, I have always dreamed of being a pageant girl. Before Miss World Canada, I participated in Miss Chinese New York and Miss Chinese Cosmos. Even though I have had my fair share of failures, each time I am doing a little bit better than the last time. I learned new tricks to improve my hair and makeup; I tried new workouts to make me appear more toned; but most importantly, I learned more about myself through each journey. It might be surprising to some but, in pageants, there is more to friendship than competition. Some of my best friends were made through pageantry, and some of the best lessons learned come from losing a pageant.
Before participating in pageants, I was so nervous about speaking out in public, performing on stage and initiating conversations with strangers. Being in pageants truly changed my perspective on life:
Take courage and begin facing your fears.
It’s not everyday that you step outside of your comfort zone. But once you do, do it well and try your best. All your fears now will transform into something natural to you down the road.
I cannot stress more the importance of expressing gratitude to those who have helped you. I would not be me without the people that have lifted me up, listened, and given advice when I am down. We need all the support we can get, but more importantly, we should be grateful to have it at all.

Today we wear red to honor the 22 victims killed in Nova Scotia’s mass shooting 🇨🇦 I cannot imagine the pain their families are going through. Losing loved ones in this difficult time is even harder to bear. . Please join me in wearing red and showing the families we care. Remember – we are stronger together! #wearredfriday #mwc2020
Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.
There are so many stereotypes and assumptions in this world. I used to catch myself getting overwhelmed by them and questioning myself if I could actually do it. Do it. There is no one stopping you from doing something great. Sometimes we are our own hurdles to jump through. If I succumbed to the potential judgment I would get as a pageant girl, I would not have met so many wonderful ladies, and had such eye-opening experiences home and abroad. Lastly,
Embrace your life because it is already amazing. The world is big and it’s waiting for you to explore and conquer. In the meantime, don’t forget to put a smile on your face 😀
Until next time, take care and stay safe! ♥♥
