Volunteerism

Vice President of French, Loveleen Sidhu

Volunteerism and community service are integral parts of my identity because I feel the happiest when I am able to give back to the community that has given me a place to live, work, and grow in. I am the Vice President of French at SVCC (Student Volunteer Campus Community) which is a free language learning group at the University of Alberta. As Vice President of French, I encourage university students as well as members of the community to enroll in French language sessions in order to build their skillset.

I am a mentor and advisor at the Stollery Youth Advisory Council. As an advisor, I introduced the Self-Care kits project which provides hospital children and youth with items such as weighted blankets, face masks, fidget spinners, journals and kind notes. These kits make the experience of kids in the hospital memorable and comfortable. I am also working on the Stollery Care Cards project which gives children

I am the Co-Chair of the New Democratic Youth of Alberta. As Co-Chair, I ensure that youth in Alberta are engaged politically. I believe that youth should be engaged and educated in politics because youth have the power to determine who holds office. I work to educate youth that their vote has an impact and they should exercise this right to bring attention to issues that are important to them.

In Winter 2018, I successfully planned, organized, and conducted a campus-wide food drive at the University of Alberta. The proceeds were donated to the Edmonton Food Bank.
